My friend is a foreign national but has Indefinite Leave to Remain. Can he claim Child Benefit?

I have a friend who is a Somali national, he will have been in living and working in the UK for five years in October and he has Indefinite Leave to Remain. He returned to Somalia two years ago to get married but has had a long struggle to get his wife and child into the country. The have just arrived, in the last few weeks, having been granted visas. However, he has been told he is not eligible for Child Benefit. Is this correct?

He has been misinformed.  As he has Indefinite Leave to Remain he can claim the same benefits as any UK national can, including child benefit.
